Drones Meeting: Saturday, October 21, 2006
We talked about: We each predicted the net gain or loss in the Senate(S) and the House(H) for the Republican party in the coming election. The results were as follows. Evan W: S+1 H No Change(NC), Fred B: S-5 H-18, James B: S-2 H-17, Roy K: S-3 H+5, Mark K: S-2 H-10, Frank C: S-NC H+3. Drones cumulative opinion: S-2 H-6 resulting in Republican retention of both houses of Congress. Evan predicted that Foley's seat in Florida would be held by the Republicans. Is it human nature to look for a movement to join? Are our responsiblilities to obey the government and not to lie absolute? Bill Brown powerfully quoted.

Actually this comment's about Nov. 4th; but I just wanted to say that I thought James Banks did an excellent job today refuting Evan Wilson's point that all workers' unions are evil. It was also completely inappropriate of Evan to use the teachers' union as the quintessential model of unionization. The error with the teachers' union, as James most aptly pointed out, is not that the teachers stand together, but rather that there is no one to stand up and compete with them. In other words, it is that the government has a monopoly on education. I understand that Evan supports monopolies, but, again as James has argued, a monopoly-based economy will never support him. The king-drone will only be a true conservative after he recognizes the dangers of monopolies, as Adam Smith did, and the stability which workers' unions provide, as Theodore Roosevelt did.
