Drones Meeting: Saturday, May 26, 2007

We talked about: The effect of drugs on our society and on individuals. Is the function of law to enforce morality or to suppress immorality? The immigration bill, what does it mean? Should the law require certain genetic engineering? The authority of rulers over their subjects; what is required of us? If the government wanted to implant a chip under your skin, would you allow it?

A specification on the genetic engineering problem: A number of years ago in Great Britain, it was suggested by geneticists that homosexuality may be caused by hereditary factors. At this time, there was a certain public figure in the House of Lords named Rabbi Immanuel Jacovits who, to some degree, turned the implications on their head. Rabbi Jacovits recommended that fetuses be scanned in the womb and genetic engineering be employed to eradicate homosexuality within one generation. My question is, should such measures be taken to limit something which is both objectively moral and subjectively impractical, or should every individual be free to choose between right and wrong? I'll try to answer the question on my own blog and leave you all with this ethical dilemma to wrestle with.

Dilemma? Suppose it is asserted that bachelorism is caused by hereditary factors. In order to eradicate playboys, should it be recommended that fetuses be scanned in the womb and genetically engineered when necessary?

Of course it's absurd just like the recommendation that homosexuality should be eradicated through genetic engineering is absurd.

The homosexual and the heterosexual both are required to submit to God. For heterosexuals who never marry, sexual purity is required just as it is required for homosexuals. It may not be easy, but for Christians, God's grace is available, and it is sufficient.

It's no good excusing yourself because you lack self-control. Act like men, believe God and get back in line.
