We talked about: The hierarchy of sports. Why do people generally root for the team closest to them? Racial and cultural thin-skinedness. Will the PCA vote on Federal Vision have any local fallout?
A private club for argumentative gentlemen.

What is the PCA, and what is the vote on Federal Vision all about? Why would there be local fallout? Is the PCA some national cult or something? I suppose I could Google it, if "Google" is the verb I want.

Sorry for the shorthand. The PCA is the Presbyterian Church of America, the largest Presbyterian body in America. That was easy. Defining Federal Vision is much more difficult and frankly is above my pay grade. I'm going to hand this one off to the Grandrone.
The PCA is the Presbyterian Church in America, the largest evangelical and conservative reformed denomination. It has been concerned over the doctrines espoused by certain of their pastors including Steve Wilkins and Peter Leithart (joined by a number of others) and influenced and colaboring with Doug Wilson of the CREC. They voted this week in General Assembly (95%) to state that the new view was inconsistent with the teaching of the Westminster Standards (which they hold dear). The Federal Vision holds to a sacramental covenantal union and attendant graces of Christ of unbelievers in the church (though not unto elect salvation). Local fallout will possibly be the gain of divergent PCA types leaving that august body for the CREC but at the same time a shutting down of national access to the reformed world for the Federal Vision doctrines.
Oh for the good old days when it seemed good to the Holy Spirit to lay upon the believing Gentiles no greater burden than to abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.
It seems so dashed confusing these days.
